Serokolo High School
is situated in the rural province of Limpopo (Formally Northern District). All year round sunshine and temperatures averaging 28° makes for a very baron habitat.
Within the game reserves and areas of outstanding natural beauty lies Serokolo High School. With the school in the foothills of the Atok mine, platinum mining is the source of work for most people in the surrounding villages.
Most learners (pupils) will walk up to 8km to get to school for a 8am start often having worked within the family home prior to leaving, after the school day finishes learners will return to clean and cook for their family and care for their siblings. With nearly 600 learners the class sizes range between 80 and 120 making for an interesting experience.
The school has very limited facilities for the teaching of sport, however with this in mind the skill level and enthusiasm of the learners was outstanding. Netball, gymstrada (gymnastics) and football are the most popular sports with Dance being central to the culture showing a true vitality for life.
