Young Ambassadors Workshop
October 7th 2008
On Tuesday 7th October, me (Jess Barker) and Luke Murchie, along with Robyn Smith and Michael Penny went to a Young Ambassadors (Y.A) workshop. There were loads of famous Olympians there like Michaela Breeze- weight lifter, Tom Davis- judo, Miriam Batten- Olympic rower, Tim Prendergast- athletics 800m and 1500m, Ian Wynne- sprint kayaking, Clare Strange- wheelchair basketball and Georgina Harland- pentathlon.
All of the young Ambassadors were put into groups with a Olympian and me and Luke were put into a group called Atlanta with Georgina Harland and we went into this room, with about 10 other Young Ambassadors and she was just telling us how she became a Olympic Medallist in the Modern Pentathlon, and who inspired her to want to become a Olympic athlete? When she had finished talking about herself and all her achievements, two Young Ambassadors who had both been in the course for two years, were talking to us about what Young Ambassadors are? And what they have to do? They told us about I.A.E.P this stands for inspire, advocate, encourage and participate. they said they have been going to different schools talking about the London 2012 Olympics in assemblies, and they have done many festivals as well, they also said that they had met lots of famous people like Kelly Holmes ect, and they might be helping out in the London 2012 Olympics.
After this, all of the Young Ambassadors (in are workshop) had to work together to fill out a booklet, to help us remember what things we would have to do as Young Ambassadors. For example; festivals, assemblies, after school clubs, encourage healthy eating- maybe get a famous cook in to help out, maybe get together a sports council or even make a bebo/ facebook page about the Olympics and maybe hold events for History, photography, art ect.
So over all we have learnt that a young ambassador has to:
Increase participation, Promote Healthy Active Lifestyles.
Live out and promote the Olympic Values of:
Respect, Friendship, Personal Excellence.
And Paralympic Ideals of:
Courage, Determination, Inspiration and Equality.
