Cross Country Relays
Gang Warily Recreation Centre
February 29th 2008
The New Forests Primary School Sports calendar continues to grow from strength to strength, and the Cross Country Championships at Gang Warily was no exception. The event saw almost 300 children from all over the New Forest congregate on the playing fields at Gang Warily Recreation Centre in Fawley.
The event played host to a number of small school teams from over the New Forest. Some of these included teams from Burley, Hale, Hyde and Western Downland. Some of the other, larger schools included Abbotswood, Ashley, Brockenhurst, Calmore, Marchwood, New Milton, Poulner, Ringwood and Wildground.
Once again the terrain of Gang Warily provided a stiff test for all runners who were supported by a very large crowd. The Girls team event was won by locals Blackfield Primary School. First place in the Girl’s race was Michelle Bigg (Orchard Junior School), followed closely by her team-mate Macadie Amoroso with Eliose Phear of Blackfield Primary in third Place.
The Boys event was one by 2006 winners Durlston Court. Jamie Shaw from Orchard Junior School finished first, with Rydan Giraudy finishing second (one place better than last year) and Alex Sellwood, also of Orchard Junior School finishing third.
The event was once again supported by Tim Wilding of New Forest Junior Athletics Club alongside the New Forest School Sport Partnership and a team of aspiring Junior Sports Leaders from Noadswood School, A Sports College, which made for such a great event.
