"Wildground dominate in first ever Partnership win "

This years New Forest rounder’s competition was once again hosted by Pennington School in Lymington. 14 teams from 10 schools competed for the title in what proved to be an exciting tournament.

4 groups produced 8 quarter-finalists in the second phase of the competition. Out of the quarter-finalist the 3 leading contenders were: Marchwood A; Blackfield and Wildground who were all unbeaten in their respective groups. After 4 very even contests the last 4 were decided, with Blackfield, Wildground and the hosts Pennington winning through, along with the slightly un-fancied Marchwood B team beating their counter parts 6 to 5 1/2.

In the semis the competition got tighter with both Marchwood B and Wildground edging out Blackfield and Pennington 5 rounders to 4 and 6 to 5 respectively. This brought possibly 2 surprise inclusions in the final, with Wildground competing in their 1st ever New Forest competition final! Marchwood batted first reaching 5 rounder’s in their timed innings leaving Wildground with 5 ½ to win. They started well and it wasn’ts long before the total was clawed back with Wildground eventually finishing 7 rounder’s from their innings. This meant that Wildground were the 2010 rounder’s champions of the NFSSP, a massive well done to them for their maiden victory.

A huge thank you this year goes to the teachers and volunteers that gave up their time to not only bring the their teams to the competition but also for umpiring their own matches…..to great effect! Thank you also to Pennington and Preistlands School for letting us use their facilities, thanks very much all.
