Girls Astro Football
Testwood Sports College
November 2nd 2007
The Girls Football event took place on Friday 2nd November at Testwood Sports College on their state-of-the-art rubber crumb football pitch. Similar to the pitch the England national team played their European Qualifier against Russia in October.
The festival saw 100 girls take part in a thrilling afternoon of football. The day started bright and sunny and this definitely paid off on the matches, as the games played were fast, bright and fun.
The teams were spilt into two groups to begin with and it was Ashley Junior School who set the pace early, winning all their group games. The other group was fiercely contested between Orchard, Fordingbridge and Ballard.
After the first group stages the both group were split into two more pools. The top two placed teams and the highest 3rd place team contested the main section and the other 5 teams played of for the Emerging School Trophy.
The Emerging School section was eventually won by Blackfield School, with Foxhills coming second and Burley finishing third in their first ever New Forest Primary School competition.
The Main Section was again closely fought out between Orchard, Fordingbridge and Ashley. Orchard managed to stay unbeaten in the group, which paid off as they finished on top of the group and the competition. Fordingbridge took second spot and the silver medal (see picture).
Congratulations to all the girls who took part in an exciting afternoon of football.
