Cross Country Relays
Gang Warily Recreation Centre
October 10th 2007

The first New Forest Primary School event took place in October at Gang Warily Recreation Centre, Blackfield. Over 100 pupils from all over the New Forest competed against each other in teams of three.

Schools included Abbotswood, Ashley, Blackfield, Brockenhurst, Calmore, Hyde, Marchwood, Orchard, Poulner and Ringwood. The event was run by New Forest Junior Athletics Club Chairman, Tim Wilding and was supported by the Partnership and Young Leaders from Testwood Sports College.

The event was split into a boy’s race and a girl’s race. The girls were first off the mark, running one lap each before tagging the next member of their team. This saw one of the closest finishes this event has ever seen with Blackfield piping Orchard on the line to be crowned the new Girls Cross Country Relay Champions.

The boy’s race was next and having seen the girl’s race, they knew what they were in for. The race was started and off they went, running a lap each of a three-lap race. Orchard got out in front early and managed to withstand Ashley’s advances in order to win the Boys Cross Country Relays.

Well done to everyone who ran in the event, it was a long way!
