  Girls Netball - Poulner Junior School

The New Forest Girls netball competition in Poulner once again attracted plenty of teams from all over the area. Over 150 girls from school years five and six competed in a thrilling tournament from start to finish.

It was the Orchard and Ringwood teams that started the brightest by dominating their group from the off. In the other group Marchwood and Brockenhurst were proving strong opposition despite losing one of their first games.

After fourty-two thrilling group stage games, the tournament entered the knock-out rounds. Teams from Orchard, Hordle, Ringwood, Brockenhurst, Poulner, Blackfield and Marchwood all made it through to the quarter-final stage. However, it was the ‘A’ teams from Orchard, Ringwood, Poulner and Blackfield that made it through to the semi-finals.

Eventually Orchard and Ringwood met each other for the second time, the time in the final. The group stage game proved a close encounter, so the final promised to go down to the wire.

With hosts Poulner beating Blackfield to take the bronze medal if was left up to Orchard and other locals Ringwood to contest the last places. Orchard eventually ran out winners by defeating Ringwood in another close match.

Once again the event was run by Jenny Newham from the Ringwood Netball League and was also supported by Ringwood Secondary School and some of their budding Netball Umpires.
