New Forest Primary
Indoor Sportshall (Yr3-4) at Applemore College
30th January 2010
On Saturday 30th January the New Forest School Sport Partnership ran the second successive Year 3 and 4 indoor sportshall athletics competition. Once again the competition did not disappoint! With 14 teams entering this years event, it was a further increase on the 2009 competition.
The atmosphere during the morning was electric and with the huge support from parents it made the event even more exciting! This years event saw schools coming from all over the New Forest, with Ashley, Abbotswood, Blackfield, Brockenhurst, Ringwood, Hyde, New Milton, Marchwood and Tiptoe among the schools entered.
The format of the event is consisted of four field events, including speed bounce, standing long jump, target throw and ball push. The running events included 1 lap, 2 laps and a relay.
After all the scores had been recorded, two of the top three positions once again included Abbotswood A and Blackfield A, but for the first time in this competition Marchwood A held on to 3rd place denying the top two schools a clean sweep of medals. There was in fact a 30 point gap between the top two this year with top spot going to Blackfield A with a total of 286 points! This of course meant that Blackfield A had retained the trophy and the title of 2010 Indoor Sportshall Athletics champions for Years 3 and 4. Ashley Junior School came a respectable 5th behind Abbotswood B, well done to them!
This, along with the 5 and 6 event, are two of the strongest and most attended competitions throughout the New Forest School Sports Partnership and the competition is a credit to the unwavering support it is shown from both New Forest Juniors Athletics Club who also provided officials and volunteers. Also, as was the case last year, Testwood Sports College provided integral support with committed Sports Leaders from the College BTEC Programme.
