Girls Netball
Poulner Junior School
April 26th 2008

On the last Saturday of April in 2008 Poulner once again opened its school gates to a mass of children from all over the New Forest. Over 360 children (boys and girls) descended on the little village of Poulner in Ringwood for the sixth Girls Netball and Boys Football Competition. This was a record for the New Forest area since the Primary School Sport programme was set up back in 2002.

The Girls Netball had 19 teams entered into 4 groups, with the top two placed teams reaching the next stage (Quarter-Finals). From Group 1 came Marchwood A and Ringwood A; from Group 2 came Durlston Court and Poulner A; from Group 3 came Milford-On-Sea and Orchard A; and finally from Group 4 came Blackfield A and Marchwood B.

In the Quarter-Finals teams began to stretch their legs and show their strength as Blackfield A saw off Ringwood A five goals to one, Milford-on-Sea defeated Poulner A six goals to one, Marchwood A beating their other team by five goals to three and Durlston Court just missing out against Orchard A by three goals to two.

The Semi-Finals were between Marchwood A and Milford-on-Sea, and, Orchard A and Blackfield A. Both Semis’ were close, but it was Milford-on-Sea and Orchard A who were set to meet in a thrilling final. After playing each other in the group stages they were now to play each other again, one last time.

The final was end-to-end stuff and was a real spectacle of Netballing talent from start to finish. However, Milford-on-Sea were just too strong for Orchard winning four goals to three in the end.

Once again the event was run by Jenny Newham and her entourage of umpires from the Ringwood Netball League, who all did a fantastic job.
