Cross Country Relays at Gang Warily
21st October 09
There was once again a fantastic turnout at the annual Cross Country Relays for Year 5 and 6 pupils. Over 250 pupils from across the New Forest took part in a thrilling competition.
With 18 different schools convening on the slopes of the notorious Gang Warily terrain and the weather holding off we knew we were in for memorable afternoon.
The girls led the way and it was Orchard and Blackfield that took an early lead followed closely by Ashley, Abbotswood, Brockenhurst and Calmore. As the race progressed it was Orchard, Blackfield and Abbotswood that started to pull away from the chasing pack.
Near the end of the second leg runner Orchard started to stretch their own lead in the race and by the time the third runners came into play Orchard had built up an unassailable lead. Orchard held on to first place and followed across the line by Blackfield then Abbotswood, Ashley and Brockenhurst.
After a thrilling girls race, the boys stepped up to the line. Once again it was Blackfield, Orchard and Abbotswood leading the way but with stiff competition from Ashley, Ringwood, Pennington and Wildground schools. The lead changed many times until the least leg when Blackfield had stretched their lead over Orchard who had also pushed Abbotswood back into third. This was how the boy’s race finished after an exciting race.
The event was once again supported by Applemore College sports leaders and New Forest Juniors Athletics Club. Well done to everyone who took part.
