Abbotswood, Ashley, Blackfield, Calmore and New Milton Juniors came together to participate in the second Primary Schools Badminton festival at Abbotswood in Totton on Thursday 13th March. This event is becoming more popular within the New Forest with over 40 children participating in this year’s festival.

The format of this year’s festival meant that all schools were competing against each other and were engaged right until the end. The nine teams were split into 3 groups of three, with the winners of each group progressing through to the premier league, the second place teams into the Championship and the 3rd placed teams into League 1.

Abbotswood A and B teams made it through to the Premier group alongside Ashley B. Ashley A made it through o the Championship group alongside New Milton A and B teams. With Calmore and Blackfield A and B positioned in third place and progressing through to Division 1.

Calmore won both of their matches to win the Championship group. It was Ashley A who won their matches to win the Championship group and Abbotswood A saw off stiff competition from their B team and Ashley to win the overall competition for the second successive year.

This years festival also saw Badminton leaders from Testwood Sports College once again umpiring the event.

Final standings:
1st Abbotswood; 2nd Abbotswood B; 3rd Ashley B; 4th Ashley A ; 5th New Milton A; 6th New Milton B; 7th Calmore; 8th Blackfield A; 9th Blackfield B.
