"New Forest athletics goes down to the wire"

In a change to last years format the New Forest School Sports Partnership ran 2 competitions in 2010 and for the first time had a showcase event at The Southampton Sports Centre.

7 schools competed across the 2 events and produced a high quality of competition throughout all the individual disciplines. In all disciplines the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers were identified and also an overall finishing position for all the competing schools.

Some of the finest performances were achieved in the following: Boys Standing Triple Jump Callum Boitz (Blackfield) – 6m 68cm; 600m Ella Jane Brammer (Abbotswood) – 1m.59s; Boys Javelin Ben Conway (Abbotswood) – 30m 22cm; Girls 80m Ellie Penk (Marchwood) – 12.2s and Girls Long Jump Sian Willis (Ashley) – 3m 64cm.

The trophy for overall schools winner was between 2 of the heavy weights in New Forest schools athletics, Blackfield and Abbotswood. The competition between the 2 could not have been closer, with both teams tied on the same points going in to the final relay events. The relays were to decide the outcome and taking this years title were Abbotswood, a very well done to them.

A special thank you needs to go to the leaders from Arnewood, Noadswood and Hardley Schools, Tim Wilding from New Forest Athletics Club and his assistants, and the NFSSP staff and SSCo’s who all gave up their time to support the event, many thanks!

Hampshire County Athletics Competition
Following on from the fantastic achievements at partnership level the New Forest representative team went on to claim 1st and 3rd place in the boy’s team events at the County Finals. Not only that, but and in the overall team competition New Forest came away with the title making the NFSSP winners of the competition 3 years in a row, can we make it a 4th?!

For all his dedication and hard work putting the team together and managing them on the day a special thank you goes to Dan Hoskins of Blackfield, thanks for all the continued support Dan!
