Kwik Cricket Festival
On Wednesday June 13th close to 160 boys and girls descended upon Totton and Eling Cricket Club to take part in the New Forest Primary School Sports Kwick Cricket festival, supported by ASDA. The winners would not only have the prestige of holding the forest trophy but would go on to represent the District at the Rosebowl in the county finals.
All schools played a number of games over the four pitches all umpired by volunteers and young leaders. Clive Surry the Hampshire Cricket Developent office was on hand to talent ID for the Rosebowl academy and he witnessed some high standards, Clive commented” the ability of a high number of boys and girls here today highlights the standard of delivery by teachers within the partnership”.
After a super BBQ hosted by the Totton and Eling Club, the last round of fixtures resulted in two semi finals - between Abbotswood School and Ashley Junior School and Foxhills School and Lymington Junior School. Both matches were very close with Abbottswood only piping New Milton in the last over, with the last pair to bat scores were tied with Abbotswood going onto win by 7 runs and secure a place in the final against Foxhils who after another close faught match beat Lymington.
The final played in front of a large and passionate crowd witnessed Foxhills place a score of 241, leaving Abbotswood a total that was high but achievable to overhaul. Having progressed well to 213 the 2nd Abbotswood pair lost a flurry of wickets to leave a huge task for the final two pairs to overcome, the run chase fell away at the end leaving the final score at 196. After a fine bowling and fielding display taking 9 wickets Foxhills Junior School were jubilant, progressing to represent the district at the Rosebowl later in the month.
