Abbotswood Snatch Win from Ashley at the Depths

Testwood Sports College hosted the New Forest Primary School Sport Tag Rugby Festival. There were 16 teams from around the New Forest battling it out to be crowned the New Forest Primary School Sport Min Tag Rugby champions for 2007.

The schools were split into 4 pools with the top two placed teams progressing through to the Quarter-Final stages of the competition, which saw Abbotswood 2 and Blackfield from pool A, Orchard and Ballard from pool B, Abbotswood 1 and Ashley from pool C and Tiptoe and Ashley 2 from pool D all advancing to the knock-out stages.

It was Brockenhurst Primary School who won the Fair Play Award for the day, with their commitment to the game and displaying notable gamesmanship throughout the festival.

It was the Quarter-Final stage which saw the event rally hot up with Abbotswood 2, Orchard, Abbotswood 1 and Ashley all wining their respective matches. From then on there was only ever going to be two finalists with Abbotswood 1 and Ashley 1 both displaying some unbelievable standards of tag rugby. The Final was end-to-end stuff with Ashley dominating the first period on points, only to see Abbotswood come back and steel the win in the dying seconds, winning 5-4.

The event was run on the day by the New Forest Community Rugby Coach Andy Headley and supported by the Partnership. Testwood Sports College supplied the newly qualified tag rugby referees from year 10 for the afternoon and for their first competition were a credit to the school.
