New Forest School Sport Partnership

The Partnerships aim is to increase the amount and quality of PE and Sport in schools.
The aim is for every child to have access to and be involved in three hours of high quality PE and Sport per week (2 hours curriculum plus 1 hour after-school sport)
a legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Our target

Through the School Games the New Forest School Sport Partnership aims to:

• help schools to create sustainable school sport competitions, both within and between schools, involving all pupils
• help schools to involve their staff, parents, local people and young leaders and volunteers to lead competitive sport
• help schools to engage in sport pupils who are less active or who do not have equal access or opportunity to compete (e.g. pupils with disabilities).

The School Games is a celebration of competitive sport for young people and the aim is for all young people, of all ages, abilities and background to be involved.

Our current position

The New Forest SSP PE and Sport survey 2010-2011 indicates that 57% of young people in the New Forest actually participate in three hours of PE and sport on a weekly basis at their school.

Around 50% of young people take part in Inter-school sport competitions against other schools in the district, whilst 80% of young people are involved with Intra-sport competition against other young people in their school. Many young people (40%) are also involved in Leadership and Volunteering in sport at their school or in the community.
