We are now two years into the delivery of the PESSCL (Physical Education, School Sport and Club Links) strategy. The Government’s long term vision is to both increase the amount and quality of PE in schools.

Our target
To enhance the take up of sporting opportunities by 5-16 year olds by increasing to 85% the percentage of school children spending at least 2 hours a week on high quality PE and school sport, within and beyond the curriculum, by 2008, and to at least 75% in each School Sport Partnership by 2008.

Our current position
The take up of sporting opportunities by 5-16 year olds has increased to 90% of school children spending at least 2 hours a week on high quality PE and School Sport. This equates to 17,817 pupils out of 19,848 pupils in the New Forest.
